Kinderdance student - Dreams of Flying

Information on Classes

The Mill Ballet School offers classes throughout the year. Registration is on an ongoing basis. New students must schedule an appointment to meet with the directors and discuss appropriate placement classes. In addition to our school year classes, during the summer we offer intensive workshops and dance camps.

Registrations

Students will not be allowed in any class without prior registration. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Returning students are encouraged to register early to secure a place in the appropriate class. Enrollment is limited.

Attendance

Regular attendance is paramount to our program. Excellent attendance ensures progress and self assurance. Absences due to illness or injury may be made up in a class or

equal or lower level within three weeks,

with prior notification to your teacher.

Class Observation
Class observation is open to all parents with prior notification. We ask that visitors be respectful by keeping conversation to a minimum. No shoes are allowed in the class room. Parents and students are welcome to discuss their progress with the directors by appointment at anytime.

Special Class Offerings!

The Mill Ballet School offers special classes and workshops, lectures, demonstrations, private classes, educational programs, public and private school residencies and dance curriculum integration. WHEEL CHAIR INTEGRATED DANCE CLASSES

Sit-down students take ballet classes together with

STRETCH & STRENGTH FOR DANCERS

All Ages & Levels. As dancers we are always looking for new ways to fine tune, stretch, strengthen, balance and take care our instrument. Stretch & Strength for Dancers will guide you to explore and train in a variety of ways. Details are found below.

REGULAR CLASSES

  • Boys - A ballet-based class specifically geared toward boys.

  • Kinderdance - This class touches on the child's expression through movement.

  • Pre-Ballet - Rhythms, patterns, and form are covered along with basic movements to prepare students for classical ballet technique.

  • Ballet Level 1 through 6 - The focus at these levels is to provide students with a strong ballet technique, placement and artistic sense.

  • Modern Dance - Covering fundamentals of contemporary modern dance, including alignment, coordination, dynamics and movement vocabulary.

  • Jazz - All elements of jazz dance.

  • Pre-Pointe - A class designed for the student dancer wishing to pursue pointe work.

  • Pointe 1 - This class covers the basics of pointe work.

  • Pointe 2 - This class is a progression from Pointe 1.

  • Movement & Marks - A Visual arts and Movement class for Children 2-5 and a parent. The class is artistic, fun, creative, and filled with lots of theme based activities. Always based in the classical art, music, and dance environment. Children will work on arts & Craft projects and then reinforce the days lesson with dance based activities. You never to young to be an artist. "Children are born artists the problem is to stay one as an adult" Pablo Picasso.

  • Tap Dance - An exploration of the fundamentals of classic tap.

  • Musical Theater - A class for young performers ages 10 - 18. Students are taught the fundamentals of theatre through movement, voice and acting.

  • Variations - This class focuses on solo dances choreographed to demonstrate a dancers' technical prowess.

  • Pas De Deux- The art of partnering for intermidate and advance level dancers.

  • Adult classes - The Mill Ballet Offers an extensive array of classes serving the adult dance community. Classes offered include Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Stretch classes and more.

  • Stretch and Strength/Floor Barre - Once used only buy athletes dancers, actor, musicians, this method is now used for everyone- Men and Woman of all ages. The class relieves back pain, controls weight, improves flexibility, joint mobility and lengthens the body. Coordinates the body and improves alignment; Stimulates the circulatory system.

  • Specialty - This class will focus on the many different components of the classical ballet class, giving students a deeper understanding of the technique and art form. Students will spend 4 - 6 weeks on adagio, pirouettes, allegro, and musicality as well as other class components.

  • Gyrokinesis - a form of exercise that offers benefits similar to those of yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and Tai Chi. Appropriate for students aged 10- 100, movements are fluid and gentle, allowing anyone the ability to perform the exercises, while still providing a good workout.   Postures are smoothly connected through the use of breathing, making exercises look and feel more like a dance than like traditional yoga.   A typical class begins with students practicing simple breathing patterns before exercises begin.   While seated on low stools, students move the spine through a series of rotating, bending and twisting movements.   These movements are developed into patterns that are designed to increase flexibility and relaxation.

  • Dance Conditioning - This class targets the muscles used for dance. The objective is to strengthen and improve the coordination of those muscles as well as balance and align the joints. The exercises are dance specific and incorporate the use of elastic bands. Core training is also a component of this class.

  • Belly Dancing - Offer at three different levels, this fun and challenging dance class welcomes women of all ages (teens to grandmothers), shapes and sizes, and is most fun to enjoy with friends and family. Enjoy this free morning of dance, exercise and fun.
  • Ballroom Dancing - Ballroom/Latin Dance Classes offered at 3 levels - The American Style Rhythm dances: Rumba, Cha Cha, Swing, Salsa/Mambo, Merengue.  The American Style Smooth dances: Waltz and Foxtrot. Rhythm Dances: Samba &  Bolero, Smooth Dances: Tango and Viennese Waltz .
  • Private classes are offered in all styles and levels.
